I am proud to walk in the footsteps of the saints who have passed before me in declaring the tenets of the ancient faith. I concur with the church fathers and mothers who proclaimed the mystery and the beauty of the Trinity – God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. I confess, along with all the company of heaven, the orthodox faith “that the Lord has once for all entrusted to us, his people.”[1]

I believe in God, who possesses all power and embodies all creative energies. God is the One who spoke and it was done; God is the One who breathed life into mankind, and it was so. As the Messiah, Jesus Christ is my Savior. Jesus is the only Son of the Father, and he is my one and only Lord. I believe in the virgin birth, declaring that Jesus, while born of a human mother, was conceived by the Holy Spirit of God.

Jesus was fully man and fully God. Possessing both humanity and deity, Jesus suffered every temptation that we face, and yet was without sin. I believe in the divine plan of God to redeem humankind through the sacrifice of God’s Son, Jesus, the perfect and spotless Lamb. It is through this last and final blood sacrifice that we possess forgiveness of all sins.

Through his suffering and crucifixion unto death, Jesus bore all the sins of the world, tearing in two the curtain which once separated us from fellowship with God. I believe that Jesus died and captured the keys to hell, binding Satan for eternity. After Jesus’ resurrection and prior to his ascension, Jesus appeared to many witnesses and is currently seated on the throne where he reigns and intercedes for us.

Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior, Shepherd and Friend. He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life; He is the Good Shepherd, the Prince of Peace, and the Light of the World. I believe in and trust in the Holy Spirit as my Counselor, my Guide, and my Defender. The Holy Spirit resides in the hearts of believers, and operates in the lives of unbelievers in the form of prevenient grace.

The Church is one, universal, holy, and apostolic. The Church is the body of Christ, and was established to strengthen and empower believers to live the Christian life. I believe in the universality of the Church and the fellowship and priesthood of all believers. I believe in water baptism for repentance and the baptism of the Holy Spirit to empower believers to fulfill God’s call.

God speaks through the scriptures, enabling believers to become mature Christians through its study and application. I believe that God has chosen scripture to be the primary vehicle through which God speaks, but that dreams, visions, and prophetic words are also used to communicate with humankind. I believe in the power of prayer as modeled by our Savior Jesus, and I accept the command to pray for myself, my church, my community, and my world.

I believe that we are living in a war zone and that our enemies are Satan, the world, and the flesh. Understanding the tactics of the enemy is critical in waging war and in the ability to live victorious lives here are now. I praise God for the angelic forces that battle on our behalf. I believe in our authority to break strongholds and be free from the chains with which the Enemy would have us bound.

Finally, I believe that Jesus is coming back. “Behold, I am coming soon!”[2] More important than clinging to a particular school of eschatology, I believe that it is our duty to work diligently and faithfully until that day arrives. Rather than simply hoping for a better day in heaven, I believe that we can experience joy and victory now, even in the midst a hurting and dying world.
